You’ve heard of hacking computers, hacking smartphones and hacking email….. But what about hacking your body??? What is Biohacking? And even more telling - are YOU a biohacker?
Well, chances are, if you are reading this blog, you are a biohacker at some level. While the word sounds technical, even intimidating, biohacking is all about self-improvement. In essence, biohacking is simply a way to change your body, mind, and overall qualities of life to help you reach your goals and achieve a peak state of mind.
While the term biohacking may be new to you, it’s origins are as old as the dawn of time. In fact, at a very basic level the idea of biohacking is a strategy to live in a post-industrial era, while getting back to our ancestral roots. - Modern Science meets ancestral wisdom in a sense.
For example, red light therapy is a source of Vitamin D - which simulates the sun we often don’t get enough of in our modern offices, etc. Advanced water purifiers simulate clean, pure water from a source like a fresh-water mountain stream. And cold/hot water therapy (like cryotherapy or a sauna) simulate the temperature extremes our ancestors experienced pre air conditioning and heated homes.
The term biohacking is VERY broad. It incorporates everything from trying more vegetables in your diet, to bionic eyes, mind-controlled drones, and gene editing. For the purpose of this article, however, we are going to stick to the definition of biohacking on it’s most basic level - making small changes in your day that help you be the best you.
Lifestyle and dietary changes
These changes include the more traditional habits that you may not even think of as biohacking: yoga and meditation, eating healthy, spending time in nature, finding exercise you enjoy, sleeping well, and using supplements.
The Next Step
Once you’ve mastered the above techniques, you may choose to start using wearables like the FitBit or the Apple Watch to track the way you operate. You can even try one of these non-invasive methods to target direct areas of your body, mind, and soul:
1- Biohacking your Circular system through Cryotherapy
2- Biohacking your health through red light therapy
3- Biohacking your lymphatic system, through compression therapy
4- Biohacking your bones, through Osteo Strong
5- Biohacking your diet, through intermittent fasting and increasing superfoods
6- Biohacking your brain, through functional music
7- Biohacking your mindset, through incorporating gratitude and abundance mindset
8- Biohacking your overal function, through supplementation.
Kratom and Biohacking
This last biohacking technique is where kratom comes in. Although not a major source of vitamins and minerals, future scientists may discover that kratom has nutrigenomic value. Nutrigenomics is the way food interacts with your DNA, and there is no denying that kratom has some unique properties that may have helped many people on their health and wellness journey.
Kratom is an herb grown on tropical trees native to Southeast Asia. Taking Kratom can lead to stimulate effects (in low doses and depending on the strain) and sedative effects (in high doses and depending on the strain). Some of the most reported uses for kratom are: Provides stamina, may enhance alertness, increases energy, can help contribute to focus and concentration, may lead to deeper and more restful sleep, and may alleviate discomfort and pain.
As with any supplement, it is important to do your own research on kratom. Much information can be found on this website, and other important sources are listed at the end of this article.
Basically, there’s no wrong way to biohack, as long as you experiment in a safe way. Herbs and supplements can be a great place to start. Kratom, in particular, may easily be able to fit into your healthy living routine.
